NaNoWriMo Prep: "Write Ins and How to Find Them"

We are literally on the verge of NaNoWriMo's start and the only thing left to do is offer one last resource that can majorly help you crunch out your word count. This one's a bit different as, not only will this post be decidedly shorter than the others, but involves you physically going to a location to write.

On the official website there is a wonderful little page that helps you find NaNoWriMo write ins occurring in your area. Most of these write ins will be in libraries, book stores, coffee shops, etc, but the point of these meeting places is for you to surround yourself with other writers who are taking on the same challenge. Its a great way to take off some of the pressure since you'll be surrounding yourself with people who will be more than willing to help you out. The link to this is provided here. This page is self explanatory with several links that point you in the right direction. If you're simply wishing to attend, click on the "Find a Come Write In Location Near You" button at the top of the page. Or, you could click on the link I've provided if you don't want to bother with the other links on the previous page that allows you to host a write in yourself. The direct link I am providing is here.

Again, this page is also self explanatory, enter your zip code or state of residence and start looking for something near you. Keep an eye out as some write ins will cost money, others will be absolutely free. Google the location if you're not sure if they're charging and give them a call, they'll be eager to answer and more than likely write ins will be free anyway.

One last note for write ins: what kind of write ins they are depends on the host. What that means is, some hosts like to competitively challenge their attendees to crunch out words and take home a nice motivating little prize in the midst of the action. Other hosts on the other hand prefer a much quieter environment where you simply order a coffee and a little cake and just get right too it. A simple phone call can clarify which ones are which in your area so you can choose which you prefer.

Today's the day to whip out your planners and other forms of calendars and start planning which write ins you will or won't attend. The challenge starts tomorrow so good luck and happy writing!
